Atal Incubation Centre - Sri Krishnadevaraya University (AIC - SKU) in partnership with NRDC, Visakhapatnam was organised A Two Day International Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Conclave – IPRs in building self-sustainable Higher Education Institutes (HEI) on 15 & 16 September 2022 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The purpose of the conclave is to review the position of IPRs and their relevance to the education ecosystem; to understand the role of incubators in making IPRs meaningful and tool for self-sustainability of the institutes. Over 100+ participants from 15+ HEIs such as polytechnic, degree colleges, pharmacy colleges, state-run universities and engineering colleges from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana had taken part. The key takeaways to the participants of the conclave were – Innovations with IPR coupled with commercialization very important source of revenue to the institutes and the innovators. The culture innovation and entrepreneurship have to be nurtured at all levels beginning at school to Universities. The students have to dream big and create startups for a bigger vision- Local Solutions for the Global Problems. One of the important roles of the Incubators is bridge the industry and academia through innovation, technology, IPR. IPRs for Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Prof. MRK. Reddy, VC, Sri Krishandevaraya University; Ramanan Ramanathan, Former Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, GoI; Anil Kumar Tentu, CEO, AP Innovation Society, GoAP; Bindu Sharma, CEO & Founder of Origin Founder & CEO, Origiin IP Solutions LLP; Prithvi Sai Penumadu, AIM, NITI Aayog, GoI; Hima Bindu, MD, Novel Patent Services; Anand Kannan, IFIA-International Federation of Inventors' Associations shared their knowledge, insights and experiences on first day with the participants.

The second day has kicked off with a panel discussion, extempore, with Dr Bijay Kumar Sahu, NRDC and Dr. Yashawant Dev Panwar, TIFAC, moderated by Dr. Shivakiran. The moderator had taken all of the participants in the time-machine to explore the great things that happened in the past in IPR domain, with Dr. Sahu being our guide, and also travelled to the future with the guidance of Dr. Yashawant who anyways does the prediction and forecast of the innovation as part of his job. It was a great journey straddled between past and future. The next session was even more educating with the entry of Mr. Naveen Lakkur, Chief Innovation Coach, talking about Idea & Execution and Innovations & Values on fill the gap in monetizing the IPR and the Role the Incubators in HEIs growth.

The next session was also equally relevant. Mr. Saurabh Trivedi, who has rare combination of expertise, IP attorney and an Investor, he explained the view of an investor when a startup has a good IP.

It was led by Mr. Hiroki Watanabe, Director, IPR Division, Japan External Trade Organization, New Delhi. Mr. Watanabe educated the participants on the perspective of Japan, its expectations, potential areas of IP exchange. He also urged the participants to creative good IPs esp patents that Japan companies can also benefit from. And, he was an ideal guest. He enjoyed local dishes, participated in all the activities and very excited while listening to the stories of our startups. The virtual sessions.
